Whether the attack is a front punch, lapel grab, overhead strike, or rear wrist grab, kotegaeshi (reverse wrist take down) is a fundamental Aikido technique that can be applied to control the uke (opponent).
Aikido Techniques: Harmony is the First Step
Nage blends with an attackers force and redirects it to lead the wrist to the ground. Kotegaeshi is one of the fundamental katame waza or immobilization techniques that provide the foundation of the Aikido techniques “arsenal”. The attached demonstation illustrates kotegaeshi applied to different attacks.
